More NaNoWriMo Ideas

The disadvantages of Television.

The books of Paranormal Shadows deal with crimes. Sometimes these crimes involve homicide. Since there is none in my personal life (thank all the gods), I tend to get ideas from television. I watch a lot of Investigation Discovery. After a few episodes, the ideas start mashing together in my mind.

I had one idea for NaNoWriMo. Now I have two.

The first idea is for a series of murders where people die through magical means involving a mirror. I haven’t worked out the details why or even how. I haven’t determined who is responsible or what they hope to gain from it.

The second idea has to do with obsession. A woman obsessed with a man and wanting to take the place of the wife he adores. I had considered reversing that, making it a man obsessed with the life of another man and wanting to replace him. I’m still not sure how that will go, but it’s intriguing since I now have a who and why and the how could come to me.

It’s still a little more than a week before NaNoWriMo, so I still have time to decide which one to do. That is, of course, that a third idea doesn’t appear that will be equally intriguing.

It wouldn’t be the first time I got a last-minute idea and had to run with it. Who knows what ideas another episode of Criminal Minds might spark. Or the next episode of Castle. I could take out the DVD of the first season of Crime Scene Investigations or Charmed and get yet another idea. I just read a Star Trek novel and had a thought for a science fiction story.

My ideas are often sparked by the oddest things. I’ll see something and say “What if….”.

So where do your ideas come from? Share in the comments below.

  1. For me, ideas are usually the result of “What if. . .?” What if a human child was raised by a Sasquatch? What if you found a key that opened every door? What if you had an idea for an invention, but when you made it, people used it for an evil purpose you didn’t have in mind?
